From 20 July, offshore applicants can lodge their Registration of Interest (RoI) for state nominations for the Skilled Work Regional visa 491 while those onshore can apply for the visa 491 and the Skilled Nominated Visa 190.

Migrants currently resident in South Australia and long term residents who meet the conditions laid down by the state government and the Department of Home Affairs, can apply for state nominations under three categories:
1. International graduate of South Australia
2. Talent and Innovators program
3. Currently working in South Australia (including long-term residents)

Offshore applicants must meet requirements of at least two years of work experience, or five years. If they are working in the field related to the occupation in the list and they have superior knowledge of English. In some specific occupations, those applicants have eight years of work experience and a superior level of English will receive priority.

Onshore applicants meeting the state and federal requirements, can apply for a nomination. Depending upon the duration of their work experience in the state, they can be eligible for the visa 491 or the visa 190.

The state government has also made exemptions for applicants living and working in outer and regional South Australia. For example, a long-term resident working in a field other than his/her nominated skilled occupation or closely-related to it, may also be eligible for the state nomination.

International graduates from South Australia meeting the state’s study requirements can receive additional points when applying for any of the two visa subclasses.
