It is necessary to have an overall idea of how current Victoria migration program is running for period of 2021 – 2022.


Places filled

Skilled nominated visa (subclass 190) – State nomination program

3,500 places have been allocated to Victoria. As at 31 August 2021, for the 2021-22 program 4,220 ROIs have been received and 105 applications have been submitted for Victorian visa nomination.

Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) – State nomination program

500 places have been allocated to Victoria. As at 31 August 2021, for the 2021-22 program 525 ROIs have been received and no applications have been submitted for Victorian visa nomination.

The Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa provides opportunities for skilled professionals to gain further work experience in Regional Victoria. Subclass 491 visa holders may be eligible to then apply for the Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191).

As at 31 August 2021, 226 of 4,220 ROIs have been selected to apply for Victorian visa nomination.

Subclass 491

As at 31 August 2021, 1 of 525 ROIs have been selected to apply for Victorian visa nomination.

In the 2021-22 Victorian skilled visa nomination program, we are seeking applicants working in our target sectors with STEMM skills.

Australian qualifications

For the period 1 July 2021 to 31 August 2021, 81% of all nominated skilled visa applicants held an Australian qualification. 5% of all nominated applicants held a PhD, of which more than 75% were from Australian universities.

These numbers demonstrate that Australian qualified migrants are well regarded by Victorian employers and are able to meet other eligibility requirements for Victorian nomination. Potential applicants, including those with PhDs awarded by Victorian institutions, are encouraged to submit a Registration of Interest if they meet the relevant eligibility criteria for either subclass 190 or subclass 491 visa nomination.

Business and investor visa nomination

188 – Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional)

Victoria’s Investor, Significant Investor and Entrepreneur streams have not opened for new applications in 2021-22. More information about opening dates and Victorian requirements will be available on our website shortly.

The Business Innovation stream is open to new applications, and business migrants must demonstrate either product or process innovation in their business proposal.
